My First Artist Statment

I came to New York City in 2011 from Japan and I started work at a hair salon because I was a hairstylist before I came here. Two of my co-worker friends were interested in the technological industry and we started to talk about how technology will influence our future. This wonderful encounter made me start to look at my life differently. I started to research the possibility of computers and associating art into what I like. A lot of artists have inspired me, especially works of Team Lab, Sputniko!, and Scott Snibbe are my favorite artists. The similarities in their works are philosophical, educational and mysterious. Some of their works are based on knowledge of science, especially, DNA and cells, as well as natural phenomenons, historical paintings, and social issues. They are also incredibly beautiful.
One day, I had a customer who works as a developer of virtual reality. He talked about his passion for his job and he explained how exciting and challenging the new technology is. I was so impressed by the way he expressed himself. More and more, meeting and talking to customers who work in the technological industries have encouraged me to learn creative coding and new media and has reinforced my decision for my next step.  I would not have been able to realize this passion of mine without many customers and awesome co-worker friends.
I’m very excited about going to Hunter College majoring in Computer Science and acquiring knowledge for being an interactive artist. Hopefully, the world will accept my future works and will be able to make people happy with my works.
